Scottsdale homebuilder to buy William Lyon Homes for $2.4 billion

Taylor Morrison Home Corp. is making a big buy to increase its market reach, agreeing to purchase William Lyon Homes for $2.4 billion.

Scottsdale-based Taylor Morrison (NYSE: TMHC) will become the fifth-largest homebuilder in the U.S. if the deal is consummated. It will also allow the company to enter into new markets in Washington, Oregon and Nevada.

Forestar says D.R. Horton's offer could be superior to Starwood bid

Forestar Group Inc (FOR.N) said on Thursday that U.S. homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc's (DHI.N) offer to buy a majority stake in the real estate developer could be superior to its deal with Starwood Capital Group.

Forestar also said it was still subject to the agreement with Starwood, which in April agreed to buy the Texas-based company for $14.25 per share, or about $605 million.
